Asa, a veteran artist from Nigeria, accuses Joeboy of violating copyright and demanding $300,000,000 in response
Asa, a stage name for Bukola Elemide, has criticized a copyright violation warning issued to Joeboy, the star of the Afropop phenomenon.
In the latest saga, a vocalist who is stationed in Europe alleged that Joeboy’s newly published song, Contour, was ripped off of a song she wrote and recorded on September 22, 2020.
In response, she requested N300 million in addition to a 60% (sixty percent) publication share on the song.
This was stated in a letter that Asa’s sent to Joeboy’s team that also drew interest from Nigerians.
According to the letter:
”It has been brought to our attention that your newly released song, Contour (the “Song”), infringes on the copyright of our Client, as recorded/captured in a musical composition (the “Composition”) which she created in a recording session, which took place on 22 September 2020, with the producer of the Song, Alageu Michael Chidozie (p.k.a Tempoe) in attendance”
“We hereby demand that you immediately remove the Song from all DSPs and any other platforms within twenty-four (24) hours of your receipt of this letter, with a written apology issued to our Client as well as halt any additional infringements of our Composition, including any other infringements.”
‘We also demand that the sum of N300,000,000 (Three Hundred Million Naira) as well as a 60% (sixty percent) publishing split on the Song be assigned to our Client.”
In response, Joeboy swiftly posted on his Instagram story to explain that his admirable demeanor does not imply that he is open to being humiliated by anyone.
Adding to his retort, he dared Asa to exercise any legal sanction and punish him by saying that she would be waiting for her. He posted the story and added the word “Lol” to the caption.
